I'm Ready For My Close Up

Far from the global event that it is today, the Academy Awards, first held in 1929, was a private event held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Two hundred seventy people attended the dinner, and guest tickets for the event cost $5 each. Soon, public interest in the event grew, and it was no longer practical to offer dinner to the growing masses. The event was moved to Grauman's Chinese Theater in 1942, and was first televised in 1953.

Perhaps one of the best things about the Academy Awards is the fabulous frocks that celebrities don each year. Since I was a wee young principessa, I have sat home snuggled in my furs and dreamed of the day that I, too, would one day be recognized for my supreme style skills. Plus my hair is way too fabulous not to be televised regularly.

Below are some of my favorite gowns from recent Academy Awards. Check back soon to see my favorites from yesteryear!

Rene Zellweger -2001
