What I Would Wear to Rush in 2024

Tuesday, July 16, 2024

 Hey there princess!

I went through Rush in the Winter of 2009, and was absolutely thrilled to be part of the Kappa Alpha Theta new member class that year. My time in Theta was some of the most fun of my life, and I love looking back through that special Rush experience at this time every year.

I remember spending months looking through shops and trying on clothes with my mom so that I looked absolutely perfect every single day from my clothes, to my shoes, to my accessories. If you're interested in hearing all about that experience, please let me know! I would love to share!

If I were going through Rush as a freshman today, I have selected a few different items that I think would look timeless and lovely on any young girl today. When selecting outfits, I think it's important to choose something that is classic, something that you can see yourself wearing again and again, and something that can help you stand out in the other girl's memories. I have linked a few things below, and I would love hearing all about what you are wearing!

Some tips before you head to campus to start going through rush:

DO: Try on all of your outfits at home before you leave. This means the whole outfit including shoes. Walk around in your shoes, and make sure that you have all of the right undergarments selected for each outfit. Make sure your bra straps don't show, and be sure to pack shape wear.

DON'T: Share your outfits with your friends. While you might be excited about your new clothes with your new roommate, or other girls that you know are going through Rush with you, please refrain. The last thing you want is to start stressing about comparing yourself to others. I have also had bad experiences in the past with girls asking to borrow my clothes and returning them in less-than-stellar condition.

DO: Make sure to get recommendation letters submitted to each sorority that you are going to parties for. You want to make sure to put your best foot forward, and rec letters are the top way to do this.

DON'T: Wear perfume at parties. In a room packed with girls, you want everyone to focus on the awesome things you have to say - not feel overwhelmed by all of the different perfumes that don't mesh all together. Focus on a high-strength deodorant (it can be hot and stuffy in those parties, and you don't want pit-stains) and nothing with too strong of a scent. You want them to remember you - not your smell.

Barbiecore: Come on Barbie Let's Go Party

Monday, May 22, 2023

 Hey there princess!

With the Barbie movie headed to theaters soon, I have been fully engrossed in finding both Barbie and Barbie-inspired apparel to get psyched. I love seeing all kinds of hot pink things headed to stores, and if you have any Barbiecore looks that you're loving, I would love for you to send them my way.

Recently, my mom and I went to see Legally Blonde at our local Alamo Drafthouse, and we had so much fun! I am hoping to have a similar experience at the Barbie movie in a few months. I'll be honest, my life has been needing more sequins and satire.

Pink and Orange - This Summer's Ultimate Color Combination

Monday, April 17, 2023

Hey there princess!

Spring is in full swing, and I am loving seeing all of the new items hit the fashion scene. One trend that I have been so happy to see is the return of the pink/orange color combo.

I remember when I first went to a 6 week camp in Pennsylvania away from my home here in Texas when I was about 15 I decorated my whole dorm room in pink and orange and it was a huge source of joy! When I went off to college in 2008, I once again decked my dorm room out in pink and orange and loved hanging out in all of my colorful fabulousness.

Below are some of the fun things that I have spotted online in this fun and bright combination. Please enjoy and share where you are finding great summer finds in the comment section! The brighter the better!

Ginchy Gal of the Week: Hedy Lamarr

Monday, August 15, 2022

Hey there princess!

Today, Hedy Lamarr's image is mostly known for the photo above taken from the film "Ziegfeld Girl" her contributions to film and to science far surpass her this fleeting fashion moment. In my opinion, "Ziegfeld Girl" is a totally fabulous movie that everyone should watch - truly a star-studded cast, not just star-studded fashion!

Hedy Lamar was born in Austria in 1914 to a Jewish family, and began her film career in Czechoslovakia. In 1937, she disguised herself as a maid and fled to Paris and then London to escape her abusive husband who had ties to the Nazi party. Louis B. Mayer, having seen her previous film work in Europe, offered her a contract with MGM and passage to America.

Hedy didn't just stick to making movies, though. Though she didn't have a formal education, she did have a passion for working on electrical inventions. Her early work led to her creation of an improved traffic light, and after her collaboration with Howard Hughes, she had the resources needed to fully explore her "hobby."

During World War II, she found a way to jam the signals that operated radio-controlled torpedoes through something called "frequency-hopping." Though she never saw a penny from her patent for this technology, it was the foundation for the creation of Wifi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

Be like Hedy:

  • Pursue your hobbies
  • Embrace adventure
  • Be brave in times of adversity
  • Be an icon
  • Explore the sciences

What Would TSwift Wear Day 8

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Hey there princess!

I feel like with each passing day of writing these posts, I am falling more and more in love with this music video. The drama, the eye candy, and the production value all make me feel like I'm watching a movie. This may also have something to do with how believable Taylor is in her role of "crazy ex-girlfriend." Hey! You know what they say, with genius comes a little madness.

In this pivotal scene in the video, Taylor chooses to ditch the jewels and accessorizes with a golf club instead.

Here, we see Taylor in a matching Katie Ermilio structured skirt and crop top, retailing at $1,125 for each piece.

What Would TSwift Wear Day 7

Tuesday, November 25, 2014

Hey there princess!

Today we walk on the wilder side of Taylor Swift's new music video "Blank Space."

In this fierce leopard sheath and matching pumps, Swift really is a nightmare dressed like a daydream. One of the things that I love about this video is how Taylor shows us how much her style has evolved over the years. Gone are the days of dressing up in her high school softball t shirt or fairytale princess gowns (not that I didn't totally love all of the glitz).

This new, adult, Taylor is still wrecking havoc on the romantic scene, but now she's doing it in a way that older audiences can relate more closely to. I, too, was born in 1989 and am incredibly thankful to see someone who's music I grew up with evolve instead of dissolve. Cheers to you, Taylor!

We see Taylor wearing this fierce leopard sheath dress by Dolce and Gabbana, which retails at a cool $2,825 (mascara stains not included). I am so in love with this dress, because it is something that I could completely see myself wearing in normal life! It is sophisticated, sexy, and leaves something to the imagination.

Top the look off with a pair of Ralph Lauren platform sandals, retailing at $995. You will be ready to break hearts in no time at all!

What Would TSwift Wear Day 6

Monday, November 24, 2014

Hey there princess!

We are back to exploring the elaborate world of Taylor Swift's newest music video, "Blank Space." In today's stunning look, Swift lights up the room in a Gatsby-esque gown that reminds me of so many of her earlier looks from her country music days.

I love how Taylor chooses to revisit her roots with this gorgeous gown. She looks completely elegant in this Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2007 number (Oh! Throwback!).

This video really is one piece of eye-candy after another, and I am loving it! Why can't more movies/tv shows/ music videos be like this?! It has totally inspired me to induct more fabulousness into my own personal life, how about you?

What Would TSwift Wear Day 4

Thursday, November 20, 2014

Hey there princess!

Today we are digging further into the magical world of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" video. This video is one piece of eye-candy after another, from girlie frocks to hard-core bombshell gowns.

One of my favorite pieces from Swift's darker looks is the lace gown she wears while walking down the grand staircase in her ornate mansion. To me, she looks like Odile from Swan Lake on her way to the ball. Truly, this stunner is "magic, madness, heaven, sin."

I mean really, it doesn't get much better than that. She is the ultimate femme fatale in this dress!

If you are looking to make this look your own, then swipe on some deep mulberry lipstick and don your very own Elie Saab dress. The gown is currently retailing at $3,550 (grand foyer not included), and is at the very top of every little girl's Christmas list!

What Would TSwift Wear Day 3

Hey there princess!

This is day three for the Taylor Swift "Blank Space" series, and I'm totally pumped to talk about this next outfit!

Nothing says "Sorry I dropped your Samsung S5 in this koi pond" like a little Naeem Khan! This absolutely adorable play costume is part of their Spring/Sumer 2014 collection, and I am over the moon about both the print and the structure of the outfit.

Taylor tops off the ensemble with some pink glittery Prada pumps (because who says Cinderella has to stick to glass slippers), and looks completely to die for!

Can't wait to see what new outfit we explore tomorrow!

What Would TSwift Wear?

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

Hey there princess!
If you're like me and you've seen Taylor Swift's new video for her song "Blank Space," then I'm sure you're dying to look like the singing superstar.

I was so in love with the looks in this video that I've put on my detective hat and am searching out all of the outfits from this video. Each day this week, I will be unveiling a new look from the music video (there were 20 to choose from!) and where you can purchase them for yourself!

This red-lipped, candy-heart, champagne-infused picnic is literally everything I've ever wanted in my entire life. Since I know you will be wanting to recreate this look with your own male-model beau, here is the look from Stephanie Waldrip, which is currently available on their website. The pale orange and white striped combo is perfect for discovering that your boyfriend is texting another girl and then flying into a blind rage!

This outfit is a bodysuit/skirt combo, and each piece retails for $250.

Top off this look with some chic Linda Farrow 241 sunglasses in Milky Pink currently retailing at $772.

Now just throw on some jewels you Starbucks lover you!
